Werner is an impact crater in the southwest of the front of the moon , east of Mare Nubium , south of Blanchinus crater and southwest of Krusenstern .
The crater has pronounced terraces and remains of a central mountain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German mathematician Johannes Werner .
Northwest of Werner, at a moon age of around 6.7 days, shortly before reaching the first quarter of the moon , the visual effect Lunar X can be observed on the lunar terminator .
