Werner Bernhardy junior , actually Werner Tummeley (born June 27, 1918 , † October 29, 2002 in Kleinmachnow ) was a German author . His father was the actor Werner Bernhardy senior (1884–1953).

Life

Werner Bernhardy aspired to an artistic career as a painter. However, since he was not wanted at the art academy because of his father's union activities in the 1930s, he initially worked as a costume designer and animator.

As a soldier he served in World War II before starting work as a book illustrator in 1946. In 1948 he wrote the children's book “Die Tauwetterreise”, for which he also contributed the illustrations. In addition, several plays for children were created, including for the Berlin fairy tale theater on Schiffbauerdamm, as well as some radio plays. In 1951 the first radio posse was written in Berlin dialect . Also in 1951 he wrote the play A Polterabend , which was dedicated to Adolf Glasbrenner and which was later broadcast as a radio play.

In 1957 he founded the political television cabaret, to which he later remained committed as an author. Bernhardy also wrote for the Berlin cabaret Die Distel .

From the beginning of the 1950s he was a permanent member of DEFA's authors . Numerous scripts for television series and films such as Dolles Familienalbum (1969), Viechereien (1977), Oh, this Aunt (1978) or Alma creates all (1980) were created. In the 1980s he wrote more serious pieces such as The Laundress of Portillon , Monk Don't Be Angry, and Madame Husson and her young man .

Bernhardy was married to the actress Ellinor Vogel until her death in a train accident on June 24, 1965 . He later married the actress Anne Wollner .
