Life

Sprout grew up in poor conditions. In the 1940s he completed his professional training with the Solothurn horticulturalist Rust & Co. In 1946, when he was only 21 years old, he took over the horticultural company founded by Werner's grandfather in 1892 from his father Josef Hugo. It was close to bankruptcy and had six employees. In the decades that followed, he developed Spross Ga-La-Bau AG (Spross Garten- und Landbau), which is now part of Spross-Holding AG as a stock corporation together with Debag Zurich, Spross-Immobilien AG and the Platanus Group . In addition, Spross speculated on the stock exchange , made a fortune and traded a large number of properties in Switzerland.

From the 1960s onwards, he was also known as a sponsor, above all at the Grasshoppers football club in Zurich , but also as a sponsor of disabled and sick people and a sponsor of young talent.

He found his final resting place in the Sihlfeld cemetery .
