Werner Koch (herbologist)

Werner Koch (born January 18, 1933 in Stuttgart ; † November 25, 2000 there ) was a German agricultural scientist , he is considered a pioneer of herbology and was a professor at the University of Hohenheim .

Live and act

Werner Koch studied at the Hohenheim Agricultural University from 1954 to 1957, entered the Institute for Plant Protection and obtained his doctorate there in 1960 under Professor Rademacher with a thesis on mechanical weed control. agr. After studying in Sweden, Great Britain, the USA and Latin America, Koch continued his research in Hohenheim. He was an adjunct professor from 1973 and a full professor from 1978 until his retirement in 1998.

Research engagement

Koch completed his habilitation in 1969 with the text Influence of environmental factors on the seed phase of annual weeds, especially from the point of view of weed control . In the following year he published the book "Fundamentals of Weed Control", which is considered a standard work. Koch shaped herbology into an independent teaching discipline and from then on represented it as a professor at Hohenheim University. He has published over 200 publications and supervised 80 doctoral and 5 post-doctoral students.
