Bernhard Rademacher
Bernhard Joseph Wilhelm Rademacher (born November 4, 1901 in Eisleben ; † February 11, 1973 in Stuttgart ) was a German agricultural scientist, particularly in the field of crop protection. he was a professor of phytopathology and founding director of the Institute for Phytomedicine at the Hohenheim Agricultural University .
Live and act
Rademacher studied agriculture at the Universities of Halle and Kiel from 1922 and received his doctorate in 1927 with a work in plant breeding under Theodor Roemer in Halle. rer. nat. From 1929 he worked as a research assistant in the branch of the Biological Reich Institute for Agriculture and Forestry in Kitzeberg / Kiel, where he mainly dealt with non-parasitic cereal diseases. In 1935, Rademacher completed his habilitation at the University of Kiel with the widely acclaimed work Die Heidemoorkrankheit with special consideration of the copper question . From 1936 to 1939 Rademacher worked as a lecturer for plant diseases in Bonn - Poppelsdorf .
In 1939 Rademacher accepted a call as professor and director at the newly founded Institute for Plant Protection at the Hohenheim Agricultural University. He developed the institute into one of the most respected phytopathological teaching and research facilities in Germany. Up until his retirement in 1969, over 100 doctoral theses had been completed at the institute. From 1954 to 1956 Rademacher was also rector of the Hohenheim University of Applied Sciences.
Research engagement
Rademacher's research fields mostly concerned the border areas between plant cultivation, plant protection and ecology. His list of publications comprised over 300 titles. These include several fundamental contributions to weed research and plant physiology, such as thoughts about the concept and nature of weeds, the lighting conditions in crops, especially with regard to weed growth, the fight of humans against food competitors, mutual influence of higher plants.
