Werner Kroener (* 1944 in Koblenz ) is a German painter , sculptor and professor of design, visual communication and imagery.

Life

Werner Kroener grew up in Bonn . He studied painting with Horst Antes in Karlsruhe , as well as philosophy and art theory in Heidelberg and Munich . He received the scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation and studied the psychology of creativity in his second degree. Werner Kroener has been a professor of design, visual communication and visual language in Munich since 1987. The teachability of creative processes and creativity theory as well as the development of ecological design theory are further focal points of his university work. He is a consultant for cultural initiatives in business and organizes creativity training and coaching for managers.

From 1970 he created works for drama and opera. In the context, theatrical effect and pathos are characteristic of the large-format series of works (“American Pictures”, exhibition for the Olympics in Atlanta and others). 1973 “Fantasy becomes practice”, is a first work on methods of promoting creativity. Experimental series "Boys" and "Pop Gardens" have been created since 1995 with various experimental display techniques and stylistic languages. The war photo series “Dream of Reason” was the first media work in 1998 to investigate the differences in the effects of photo and painting. Werner Kroener has been working on “writers' heads” and famous images of legendary historical events since 2000. The spirit of the times and a change in mentality have been the subject of the series “Stars” and “New Idylls” since 2006. 2010 Werner Kroener works on the current project "Re-reading SZ", cover pictures of the Süddeutsche Zeitung about press photos and lifestyle. Since 2009, reproductions of press photos have been used to create a current chronicle of current events with the specific expressive possibilities of digital painting.
