Werner Metz

Werner Richard Metz (born July 19, 1944 in Stuttgart ) is a German chess player . In 1977 he won the German championship in correspondence chess .

Correspondence chess

Metz has been playing correspondence chess since 1962. At the 7th German Cup tournament in 1972, he finished 6th. In 1977 he became German champion. He won the final round of the 14th correspondence chess championship 1975/77 with 8.5 points from 12 games thanks to a better evaluation before Jürgen Burkhardt tied for points.

In 1990 the world association ICCF awarded him the title of International Master , in 1996 he became correspondence chess grandmaster .

In the 1999 ICCF rankings, Metz was listed with a score of 2,625. He has been inactive since then.

Tournament chess

Metz successfully took part in Hessian championship tournaments on the board. He plays for the chess department of the TEC Darmstadt .

Private

Metz worked as a programmer and systems analyst.
