Werner Nickel (born August 11, 1951 in Bremen ) is a German football player and coach .
Career
Werner Nickel started playing football in the youth team of SV Werder Bremen , where he made the leap into the club's amateur team and then moved to VfB Oldenburg . Just one year later, the midfielder moved to FC St. Pauli , who played in the second-rate regional league. There he reached the promotion round in both seasons - 1972/73 as champion and 1973/74 as runner-up - but Nickel did not manage to qualify with his club for the Bundesliga . With the introduction of the 2. Bundesliga , the native of Bremen moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 ; with the SV Waldhof Mannheim and the Stuttgarter Kickers further stations in the second highest division followed. After his second division with the Kickers and almost 100 appearances for the traditional Stuttgart club, Nickel then played in the amateur area for VfL Herrenberg and VfR Murrhardt. Nickel then worked as a player coach at SSV Reutlingen 05 and a year later at SSV Ulm 1846 . With this he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga and so Nickel came to another 50 games in this division at the end of his playing career.
Werner Nickel later trained Freiburg FC , Viktoria Aschaffenburg , VfL Kirchheim / Teck and SV Stuttgart-Rot.
