Werner Schatt
Werner Schatt (born January 26, 1923 in Friedrichroda ; † July 24, 2009 in Dresden ) was a German materials scientist .
Life
Schatt served as an officer in World War II and was taken prisoner by the Soviets , from which he returned in 1949. He studied at the TH Dresden , where he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD. In 1966 he completed his habilitation at the TH "Otto von Guericke" in Magdeburg. As the successor to Friedrich Eisenkolb , Schatt became head of the materials science department at the Technical University of Dresden in 1966 . With Werner Kieffer from Vienna , Günter Petzow from Stuttgart and Herbert Gleiter from Karlsruhe , he maintained contacts with West and German domestic partners. That's why he was the Stasi heavily monitored and was suspected of treason (according to his own Stasi file). Nevertheless, Schatt received the Karl Marx Order . In 1987 he became an outstanding scientist of the people of the GDR, and the following year he became an honorary senator of the TU Dresden. Above all, he was a specialist in sintering . In 1986 he received the Skaupy Prize from the Powder Metallurgy Joint Committee for outstanding achievements in the field of powder metallurgy . Since 1977 he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .
