Werner Schneebeli

Werner Schneebeli-Gilgen (born February 19, 1942 in Zurich ) is a Swiss copywriter, especially in the field of Christmas carols.

Life

Schneebeli has been writing Christmas poems since 1968, which later became Christmas carols and numerous nativity scenes. The ORF musician Herbert Seiter from Radio Wien took on his texts and composed easily singable melodies for them, especially for use in schools. He was also supported by the Swiss single teacher Werner Baumgartner from Oberuzwil . After Seiter's death in 1996, musicians such as Siegfried Lang, author of the lexicon of Austrian light music composers in the 20th century , Gerhard Track , Harald Lakits, Christian Schneebeli and Hanspeter Nadler took on Schneebeli's texts.

Songs

Schneebeli created a total of 70 songs, all of which are published by Rubato / Weltmusik Wien. There were various world premieres of his works at the Wiener Musikverein and ORF Vienna. In the German Music Archive ten published between 1992 and 2002 music books and LPs are archived with pieces of music in which the text of Werner Schneebeli comes. At the end of 2019, Weltmusik Edition International in Vienna published a new sheet music edition for piano and voice with the title "18 Christmas carols from the pen of Werner Schneebeli" The composers are Siegfried Lang, Harald Lakits, Hanspeter Nadler, Christian Schneebeli, Herber Seiter and Gerhard Track.
