List of radio stations

Radio Wien is the ORF's Ö2 regional program for the Austrian capital Vienna .

It is the strongest city station in Vienna in terms of market share and the second most popular of all radio programs that can be received in Vienna after Ö3 . Its seat is in the Funkhaus Wien .

music

The station plays a soft AC format with international hits and oldies as well as Austropop such as Rainhard Fendrich , Wolfgang Ambros , STS and Falco . The music program covers the period from approx. 1960 to today, whereby the "labeling" of hits by year, country of origin or genre is less important than that a title fits into the music mix and the whole results in a harmonious overall listening experience. For example, Amy Winehouse , Duffy and Mika have recently been on the playlist; for example alongside The Beatles , ABBA , Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen . In addition, tones with a wider range of formats can be heard every day from 2 pm to 5 pm in the “Music Afternoon”, plus the most important news from the world of popular music from the Radio Wien music experts. And every Friday evening from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. the program “Musikspezial” is devoted to a main musical topic, e. B. individual performers, certain genres, musical phenomena or events. The radio quota propagated by the public ORF radio stations in December 2009 on the basis of self-regulation to play a 30 percent share of Austrian music has not yet been implemented by Radio Vienna or the other stations (as of June 2016) .

In addition to the high music content, service contributions are a major focus of the program. Health, law, consumer protection, but also leisure, sport and lifestyle topics are covered, as well as everything the city is talking about. At the top of the hour there is the news with a focus on Vienna, with particularly detailed reporting in the city journal during the morning broadcast "Guten Morgen Wien", at 12 noon and at 5 pm. The Radio Wien traffic editors keep drivers up to date on the road situation and also provide information about disruptions in public transport. Live reporters also report daily from all over the city.

Major program reforms took place in November 1992 ("Das neue Radio Wien", before that "Das Wiener Stadtradio") and in February 1998. While the latter, in which, similarly to Ö3, the individual programs were largely abolished in favor of "broadcasting areas", hardly caused a stir, there were some discussions in 1992 that the station could hardly be distinguished from Ö3.

In contrast to the Ö2 programs of the other federal states, Radio Vienna does not broadcast any folk culture programs . The morning pint is also not broadcast on Radio Vienna. There is also no broadcast on the topic of Wienerlied , but this sector is partially served by Radio Niederösterreich in its folk culture programs.

The fact that the program is broadcast over three different terrestrial VHF frequencies ( Kahlenberg 89.9 MHz, 100 kW ERP ; Himmelhof 95.3 MHz, 800 W; Neuwaldegg 91.3 MHz, 30 W) and thereby is viewed critically possible free frequencies blocked for other transmitters. The latter location in particular seems a bit strange, as the transmission power is quite low and the frequency is almost never advertised. Radio Vienna can also be received via satellite ( Astra 19.2 Ost) and via the Internet (MP3 stream and Windows Media stream).

The first program director and thus co-inventor of the "New Radio Vienna" (1992, see above) was Gerhard Frühling with Hary Raithofer and Reinhard Badegruber as CvDs under the director Gerhard Weis , who later became general director of the ORF; This was followed by Intendant Reinhard Scolik and, from 2003, the radio professional Stephan Halfpap , who had been poached by the German consulting company , as the new program manager under Brigitte Wolf . The current head of programming at Radio Wien has been Jasmin Dolati since January 2007 .

broadcasts

The evening on Radio Vienna

Moderated by Karl Kaltenegger .

Wednesday evening on Radio Vienna

Every Wednesday the entertainer and singer Alexander Goebel chats with the listeners and experts. For three hours, always from 7 to 10 p.m., callers can also give their opinion on the respective topic of the program. Goebel was replaced by Vera Russwurm in June 2018 . The program is alternated by in-house moderators.

WOW

The puzzle show “WOW” with Robert Steiner is on air every Sunday. For two hours, the entertainer and his advice team - including the rat Rolf Rüdiger - answer the questions of the calling children every Sunday between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. There is also a "classic car tour" where adults can ask a question. The guessing team then tries to correctly answer the children's questions within a musical number. If that succeeds, then Robert Steiner's advice team has won. If there is no correct answer or even a wrong solution, the child wins a prize. Since 2020, Radio Wien has also offered simple language news on this program.

Consolation and advice

Trost & Rat with Kurt Ostbahn started on April 9, 1995 around shaking rhymes, Steirerlied or Caterina Valente classics and thus became a cult program. With a particularly exquisite, almost antiquated politeness, Dr. Ostbahn then gave its "dear listeners" "consolation & advice". His old alter ego Dr. He had already retired Kurt Ostbahn ; but between October 2009 and June 2012, Willi Resetarits himselfstood bythe Radio Vienna audience for anhour every Sunday evening with consolation and advice .

Up and away

Every Sunday a destination was presented in the travel show between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, with insider tips from travel professionals Peter Agathakis and earlier Barbara Thürschmid , compact country information and travel reports, and there was also a trip to the presented location to be won. In several game rounds, the candidates competed against each other by telephone. You could register in advance on the Internet. The show was discontinued in December 2014 after almost 16 years.
