Consolation and advice was a program designed and moderated by Willi Resetarits and broadcast on Radio Wien . Resetarits led through the program in a deliberately improvised and "quirky" style and welcomed studio guests, including numerous musicians with whom he also sang and played live, writers and other cultural workers, as well as people from contemporary history.

Trost und Rat went on air for the first time on Sunday, April 9, 1995 at noon, at that time still with Resetarits in the role of his alter ego Kurt Ostbahn . In 1996, in addition to the weekly one-hour radio broadcast, there were also two television editions that made a comparison with Heinz Conrads and his radio show What's New? entered. In order to be able to devote more time to his music, Resetarits / Ostbahn ended with a farewell broadcast on April 12, 1998, his work as a presenter and consolation and advice was stopped for the time being. For a short time there was a similar radio show with Resetarits in ten parts, A horse returns home from April to July 2000, which was broadcast on Saturday evening on Ö1 .

After an interruption of almost ten years, Radio Vienna broadcast the first new edition on October 15, 2006, of the live broadcast now, after Kurt Ostbahn's “retirement”, designed by Willi Resetarits, in which the musician Roland Guggenbichler , the anthropologist Peter Iwaniewicz and the author, composer and cabaret artist Gerald Votava were guests. On the occasion of the revocation of the planetary status of Pluto, the latter embodied the dog Pluto in order to perform together with Resetarits Rocko Schamoni's “The Moon”.

Recurring elements of the program were, for example, a series of novels created together with the listeners over many months and written by “Privy Councilor” Dr. Peter Iwaniewicz about “wondrous things from the world of science” and the weekly weather in Vienna, lyrically summarized by the writer Reinhardt Badegruber and presented by Resetarits. One focus was the music and the musicians who were guests on every show and who often played live with Resetarits.

On June 16, 2012 the 200th and (for the time being) last issue of Consolation and Advice was broadcast. The end was preceded by the likely dismissal of Peter Blaus, who was responsible for the show as editor for a long time and worked closely with Resetarits, and "serious communication problems" with the director of the ORF regional studio in Vienna. The farewell program was broadcast as Trost und Rat XL , two hours instead of one hour, from the Tschauner stage in Ottakring . In addition to privy councilor Iwaniewicz and Reinhardt Badegruber, author and musician Ernst Molden , Martin Spengler & die foischn Wiener and Stubnblues were guests on stage , as well as previous guests such as Hans Theessink , Mika Vember and the science busters Werner Gruber and Heinz Oberhummer in the audience .
