Ernst Molden (* 1967 in Vienna ) is an Austrian songwriter and writer .

origin

Ernst Molden is the son of the former publisher, writer and resistance fighter Fritz Molden and thus the grandson of the journalist Ernst Molden and the writer Paula von Preradovic .

Career

In addition to columns , essays and novels , for which he was awarded the Austrian Promotion Prize for Literature (2000), Ernst Molden published a number of albums with his own songs. Solo and in changing formations (initially: Teufel and the rest of the gods , Ernst Molden and Der Nachtbus , later: Ernst Molden Band ) he toured repeatedly in Austria and German-speaking countries.

Since the mid-1990s, Ernst Molden (guitar and vocals) has performed a mixture of literary lecture and chanson program together with his partner Heinz Kittner ( drums ). Around the time of Take Me, Sister, the literary lecture gave way more and more to the classic rock concert framework. From Haus des Meeres, Stephan Stanzel (bass) joined the band, with the album Bubenlieder also Sibylle Kefer (second voice, flute ) and, since the end of 2007, Hannes Wirth (second guitar).

Molden has always played songs from that dusky underground that is also the backdrop for his novels. Thematically, the "Leonard Cohen Wiens" (quote from Falter ) preferably draws from the rich urban mythology of the Danube metropolis, but also from his private environment. The musical lining combines Mden's long experience with the electric blues with delicately set local color - even if it is a diminished chord that suddenly carries a rock ballad of the US type to Ottakring , hardly noticeable .

Ernst Molding's band, with whom he appears live and with which the albums Wien and Foan were recorded, is, according to Rainer Krispel ( Augustin ), a “tight grooving music machine”. Guests like the original Viennese music journalist Robert Rotifer and ex-"Ostbahn Kurti" Willi Resetarits contribute their share. On the album ( without Tue , 2009) the line-up is reduced, with Molden (vocals, guitars), Resetarits (vocals, harmonica), Walther Soyka ( button harmonica ; also known for his collaboration with Roland Neuwirth ) and Hannes Wirth (guitar ; Member of the band A Life, A Song, A Cigarette ) in a more intimate setting. Molding 's albums have been produced since 2006 ( Bubenlieder , Vienna , Foan and without di ) by Kalle Laar (Trikont, Temporary Soundmuseum Munich).

With the punk veteran Rainer Krispel, Ernst Molden sporadically formed The Red River Two .

In April 2010 he presented "Häuserl am Oasch", "A Singspiel from the Forest" at the Rabenhof Theater in Vienna . In 2011 he acted as a juror at the protest song contest .

In 2011 he brought out his 10th album "es lem". In addition to his band, this album also featured Der Nino from Vienna , Klemens Lendl, Willi Resetarits and Robert Rotifer. Also in 2011 his play "Rosi, Toni, Tatzelwurm" was premiered as a puppet theater for children from 4 years in the Viennese puppet theater LILARUM .

In mid-2012 his solo album "A so a scheena dog" was released

In May 2013 he took part in the opening of the Wiener Festwochen .

In September 2013 "Hafen Wien A Singspiel from the Dead" premiered in the Rabenhoftheater.

At the beginning of 2014 the album "Ho rugg" was released. In addition to Molden, this album also features Willi Resetarits, Walther Soyka and Hannes Wirth. The album went from 0 to 6 in the Austrian charts.

In March 2015 Ernst Molden released the album Unser Österreich together with Der Nino from Vienna .

At the 2017 Amadeus Awards , he was honored in the Jazz / World / Blues category.

With Ursula Strauss he released the album Wüdnis in 2020 .
