Commercial Academy Linz
The Handelsakademie Linz is the oldest commercial academy (HAK) in Upper Austria and one of the oldest in Austria. The vocational college (BHS) opened in 1882 was the fourth commercial academy of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and until 1954 the only commercial academy in Upper Austria.
history
The Linz commercial academy was opened on October 1st, 1882 as the fourth commercial academy in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy (after Prague 1856, Vienna 1857 and Graz 1863) at Hofgasse 23 / Tummelplatz 14 in the old town of Linz after the Linz commercial committee set up a commercial academy and the then Imperial and Royal Ministry of Culture and Education had approved the organizational statute.
It is the oldest HAK in what is now Upper Austria. The Handelsakademie Linz has been located in the listed building at Rudigierstrasse 4–6 since 1901. Probably the best-known student before the First World War was the important Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke , who attended the commercial academy in Linz from 1891 to 1892.
Since 1909, the HAK has also had a commercial school (HAS) for girls that can be completed without a Matura and lasts three years. In 1919 a two-year HAS for boys was added. In 1921 the school was taken over by the Austrian state.
Until the end of the monarchy, the school had a catchment area that went beyond what is now Upper Austria. Numerous students came from the neighboring regions of Bohemia , Salzburg and Lower Austria .
In 1945 the eastern part of the school was badly damaged in Allied air raids on Linz. The reconstruction took place in the summer months, so that classes could be resumed in autumn 1945. A sharp increase in the number of students in the 1950s made it necessary to hold afternoon classes in the school, which was originally designed for 170 students. In the 1955/56 school year, around 800 students attended the HAK and HAS. In 1958 the three-story building was raised by another story. The statue of Mercury , the Roman god of trade, which adorned the facade on the top floor of the historicist building , also fell victim to this renovation .
Until 1954, when a branch was founded in Wels , the HAK Linz was the only HAK in Upper Austria. Further branches were founded in Freistadt (1965), Rohrbach (1970), Perg, Traun and Linz-Auhof (1971). Since then, the school has been named after the street in which the school is located to distinguish it from the second HAK in Linz, which is now the second HAK, the HAK Auhof or HAK Rudigier.
In 2007 the 125th anniversary was celebrated.
Partial renovation work began in summer 2010. In addition to wash basins in each classroom, a lift for disabled pupils will also be installed in order to meet the requirements of accessibility as a public building.
student
The Handelsakademie Linz is the historical main school of the Catholic school association K.Ö.St.V., founded in 1924. Siegfriedia Linz . This is colored , non-striking and a member of the Mittelschüler-Kartell-Verband . Today there are few corporate students left. The few that still exist today, however, are active in a wide variety of Linz connections and do not exclusively belong to the Siegfriedia. In the long history of the school, the commercial academy was the main school and an important wedge area for many national-liberal and Catholic connections.
The joint student council of the commercial academy and the commercial school consists of the school representative and two deputies.
