Demeter Koko (born June 13, 1891 in Linz , Upper Austria ; † October 27, 1929 there ) was a late impressionist painter and draftsman .

education

Koko attended the commercial academy in Linz . At the age of 17 he began painting studies in Linz and completed his training on October 21, 1911 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . In 1916 he returned to Linz and shortly afterwards was drafted into military service in the First World War.

Life

After the war, he and his sister Sophie presented his works to the public for the first time in an exhibition in 1919. In 1921 an exhibition at the Upper Austrian Art Association followed . In the same year he was awarded the Austrian State Prize for his graphic work.

Later he belonged to the artists' association MAERZ . In 1923 he developed lung disease and died in 1929.

Works

His pictures primarily depict landscapes, flowers, animals and harbors. a. in the Linz Museum Nordico and in the Upper Austrian State Museum .

Honor

The Kokoweg in Linz is a cul-de-sac northwest of the Bachlbergweg on the Pöstlingberg , Linz's panoramic mountain , and was named after the artist in 1958.
