Georg Grünbart (born February 25, 1903 in Geinberg ; † July 7, 1987 there ) was an Austrian politician ( VdU / FPÖ ) and bank clerk. He was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament , regional councilor in the Upper Austrian state government and regional party chairman in Upper Austria.

education and profession

After attending elementary school in Geinberg, Grünbart switched to the community school in the town of Ried im Innkreis . He then attended the commercial academy in Linz . Since the commercial academy did not graduate with the Matura at that time , he made up for it after its introduction for this type of school.

Professionally, Grünbart initially worked for the Linz branch of the Österreichisch-Ungarische Bank (from 1923 Austrian National Bank ) as a bank clerk and in 1925 switched to Volksbank in Altheim . He later worked here as an authorized signatory, member of the board and finally as a bank director. After the Second World War he was dismissed as a bank director due to his political activities during the Nazi regime and imprisoned for 18 months for "re-education" in the so-called Glasenbach camp .

politics

Grünbart joined the NSDAP on May 1, 1933 with membership number 1612748 and founded the gymnastics club and the gymnastics band in 1935. After Austria was annexed to the German Reich , he became mayor of Geinberg in 1938. He was removed from his position as mayor in 1945 after the collapse of the Third Reich . From 1945–1946 he was interned in the Glasenbach camp for re-education .

After founding the Association of Independents (VdU) in 1949, Grünbart turned to it. In 1949 he ran for the VdU both for the municipal council in Geinberg and for the state parliament and achieved six out of 12 seats in his municipality. In addition, thanks to the VdU's great electoral success in the 1949 state elections, he entered the state parliament and was sworn in as a member of parliament on November 5, 1949. On the same day, as one of two representatives of the VdU, he took over the office of a regional councilor in the Upper Austrian regional government, where he was responsible for auditing, regional agriculture senate, savings banks, water and energy law, foreign trade as well as nutrition and economic and administrative regional affairs.

In 1952 Grünbart took over the internal party function of regional chairman of the VdU, which he held until the party was transferred to the Freedom Party of Austria. In the state elections in 1955 , the “third position”, now running as the Freedom Electoral Community (FW), suffered a severe defeat, as a result of which Grünbart had to leave office on November 18, 1955 after losing all government seats. However, he remained a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament for another legislative period, in which he represented the FW until November 16, 1961. In 1955 he had already been elected mayor of Geinberg. In 1976 he also retired from this office.

Private

Grünbart was born as the oldest of five siblings, with both his father and grandfather being active in local politics. His father acted as mayor of Geinberg and was professionally active as a small farmer, owner of a shop as well as participant and manager of a brick factory. Georg Grünbart was married to Paula Gerlesberger from Polling im Innkreis in 1930 and had a daughter and two sons.
