Upper Austrian brass band association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Upper Austrian Brass Music Association (OÖBV) is the regional brass music association of the Province of Upper Austria in the Austrian Brass Music Association .

history

The origins of brass music in Upper Austria go back to the 18th century, with military music being of central importance. Since brass music has enjoyed great popularity, especially since the beginning of the 20th century, this led to the establishment of higher-level associations. The Lambrechte teacher Eduard Munninger initiated the organization of such an umbrella association in 1928, which was founded in Linz on April 28, 1929 and for which Munniger was the first chairman and he founded the Upper Austrian Music Newspaper as the association's publication organ . Munninger also organized the first Austria-wide Kapellmeisterkurs in 1934. With the annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany, the umbrella organization was dissolved. After the Second World War, the Upper Austrian Brass Music Association was founded on June 12, 1948 under the decisive initiative of Karl Moser in Linz, following the organization of the period before 1938. The first chairman was Hans Scheichl.

structure

The OÖBV today consists of 16 district associations, i.e. one association per political district, whereby Wels-Stadt and Wels-Land as well as Steyr-Stadt and Steyr-Land are each combined. The OÖBV has 478 member bands and over 24,000 musicians.

tasks

The tasks of the OÖBV are the maintenance of brass music and the Austrian brass music tradition, the promotion and dissemination of contemporary Austrian brass music, the professional promotion and representation of the Upper Austrian music bands, the promotion of talented young musicians, the cooperation with regional, national and international organizations with the same interests.
