The Austrian Brass Music Association (ÖBV) is the umbrella organization of the regional brass music associations of the nine Austrian federal states and the partner associations of South Tyrol and Liechtenstein .

Through the individual regional associations, 2167 brass bands with more than 140,000 musicians belong indirectly (as of the end of 2017).

Until August 2014, the federal association had its headquarters in Zeillern Castle in Lower Austria, which was completely renovated from 1984 at the instigation of the President of the Austrian Brass Music Association, Josef Leeb, with the support of the State of Lower Austria and the federal government, and has been used as a training center for music seminars since 1988. The federal office has been in Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia since September 2014 .

The ÖBV has existed as a working group since 1951. It was founded in 1959 as an association based on an association. Musicians up to the age of 30 have been registered in the Austrian Youth Brass Band (ÖBJ) since 2004 , which is also based in Spittal an der Drau. Since 2008 there has been a documentation center of the Austrian Brass Music Association in the Austrian Brass Music Museum in Oberwölz Stadt in Styria.

In the Presidium of the ÖBV as well as in the Federal Youth Board and in the Federal Youth Management of the ÖBJ there are honorary functionaries who are elected every three years by the regional and partner associations. There has been a rotation system for the President's function since 2004; every year he is proposed for election by a different national association and is also the vice-president in the year preceding and following his presidency.

The association sees its tasks in the representation and representation of the Austrian brass music industry at the federal level, as a service and information center, and "connecting link" between the regional and partner associations, in national competitions for chamber music, for (youth) wind orchestras and for "music of movement ", Educational events for musicians / functionaries as well as in nationwide uniform regulations, z. B. for achievement badges, concert and marching music evaluations. Together with the City of Vienna, the association organizes the annual Austrian Brass Music Festival .

The Austrian Brass Music Museum has been operated in Oberwölz since 1995 together with the City of Oberwölz . The documentation archive operated by the association also has archive rooms in the museum.
