Emil Rameis
Emil Rameis (born April 28, 1904 in Regau , † April 22, 1973 in Linz ) was an Austrian composer , conductor , teacher and flautist .
Life
Emil Rameis received his first flute lessons at the age of nine in Vöcklabruck . From 1923 to 1930 he did military service as a musician with the Upper Austrian Alpine Hunter Regiment No. 7, a forerunner of today's 14th Panzer Battalion . During this time he was also taught music theory by Max Dornberger and Josef Bernauer. From 1930 to 1954 Rameis was a flautist in the orchestra of the Linz State Theater . From 1952 until his retirement in 1969, Rameis was Kapellmeister of the Gendarmerie Music in Upper Austria. In addition, from 1952 or 1955 to 1958 he held the office of regional music director of the Upper Austrian brass band .
Rameis was also active as a teacher; from 1945 to 1960 he taught flute at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. He was also active in the training of wind orchestra conductors, including in Steyr . One of his students from this time was the composer Bruno Sulzbacher .
Emil Rameis was married to the pianist and music teacher Hermine Rameis-Kögler since 1937. His son is the conductor Helmuth Froschauer .

Works
Emil Rameis appeared as a composer and arranger mainly in the field of brass music . For this purpose he founded his own publishing house, which was taken over by the music publisher Johann Kliment after his death. In addition, Rameis had an extensive collection of Austrian wind and especially military music ; from this he put together a manuscript on the subject of military music history, which was published posthumously.
