The children's train Khashuri was about 1.7 km long, ring-shaped narrow gauge - Children's Railway in the forest park Zemo Seri ( Georgian სერი ზემო, Russian Земо сери ) in the Georgian town of Khashuri . The line was probably in operation from September 1, 1984 until at least 1989 and was then dismantled.

history

Construction of the route and stations

Construction of the line began in 1982. Many companies in and around the city were involved. In autumn 1982, the 1.7 km long, ring-shaped route was laid and three stations were built. The main building was in the immediate vicinity of the park entrance. The construction of the line took almost two years.

Procurement of the locomotives

As early as 1982, three diesel locomotives Gr-282, Gr-307 and Gr-318 were transferred from the Vapnjarka and Rudnyzja depots of the Ukrainian narrow-gauge network Hajworon to the Chaschuri depot. However, it is not known whether they were all intended for the Chaschuri children's railway or whether they should be used on three different routes, such as the Poti children's railway and the Rustavi children's railway . In the end, only the locomotive Gr-307 was transported up the mountain to the children's railway, and the two sister locomotives were stored in the Chaschuri depot.

opening

The route was officially opened on September 1, 1984. A few days later a small article appeared in the newspaper Young Communist ( Russian Юный коммунист ) reporting on the event. At the time the route opened, none of the three stations had a name. They were to be selected by the young railway workers in a competition. Unlike most other children's railways, the first train was driven by an adult rather than a young railroad worker. He was a machinist with forty years of experience, a veteran of the Transcaucasian railroad.

The first train on the children's railway consisted of a ТU2 locomotive and a Pafawag PV40 car. It was probably the TU2-048 diesel locomotive. According to the data from the archive of the Central Telegraph of the Ministry of Railways of the USSR, it was supposed to be transferred to Tbilisi in 1983, but was probably used at least temporarily in Chaschuri.

closure

The children's railway was probably in operation until at least 1989. During the military coup of 1991 and the civil war that followed, the route was destroyed and not rebuilt.

Rail vehicles

  • Diesel locomotive Gr-307
  • Presumably diesel locomotive ТU2 -048
