Werner Schubert (journalist)

Werner Schubert (born January 4, 1929 in Chemnitz ) is a former German journalist . From 1987 to 1989 he was editor-in-chief of the SED district newspaper “ Märkische Volksstimme ” in the GDR .

Life

Schubert, son of a worker, attended elementary school and learned to be a lathe operator . After his apprenticeship, he worked in the profession and joined the SED in 1947. From 1948 to 1952 he served in the German border police , most recently with the rank of sergeant major .

From 1952 he worked as an editor or editorial secretary at the “Märkische Volksstimme” in Potsdam . He graduated from KMU Leipzig from 1959 to 1963 with a degree in journalism. From 1974 to 1987 he acted as deputy editor-in-chief and from August 1987 to 1989 as editor-in-chief of the “Märkische Volksstimme” (successor to Peter Trommer, who was appointed secretary of the SED district leadership in Potsdam ). From 1987 he was a member of the SED district leadership and chairman of the Potsdam district association of the GDR's Association of Journalists .
