Werner Spannagel
Werner Spannagelhaus (* 6. October 1909 in Barmen , now Wuppertal ; † December 1943 fell as a soldier on the Eastern Front) was a German amateur - boxer .
Werner Spannagel belonged to the Barmen Sports and Games Association . It was one of the main attractions of the first public boxing event in the sold-out town hall of Wuppertal on Johannisberg .
In 1930 and 1932 Werner Spannagel was West German champion, in 1932 German champion in bantamweight and 1933 in flyweight . In 1932 he boxed in an international match in Chicago and won against the American Johnny Baltzer . In the same year he started in the flyweight division at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles , where he was considered one of the favorites for the Olympic victory, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the later bronze medalist Lou Salica from the USA.
In 1943 Werner Spannagel fell as a soldier on the Eastern Front during World War II .
