Werner Strub (local history researcher)

Werner Strub-Wyss (* 11. February 1888 in wages SO ; † September 1950 ) was a Swiss teacher and Grenchner chronicler and local historian .

Live and act

Strub came from a family of teachers, attended a teachers' seminar and worked as a teacher in Guldental before “he was elected to Grenchen in 1911”, where “he was appointed from middle school to upper school ”. In 1912, "Strub became a school expert at the cantonal final apprenticeship exams, as well as a member of the Pedagogical Commission and the District School Commission". In 1925 he married the teacher Frieda Wyss, with whom he adopted a daughter.

In addition to his teaching activities, Strub was a librarian at the Grenchen community library and co-founder of the local literary society. He was also the curator of the future Grenchen local history museum, treasurer of the Red Cross and the Samaritan Association, and a “member of various cantonal commissions”.

The Heimatbuch Grenchen , published in 1949, is considered to be his life's work . "The 774-page standard work [...] is considered a classic in the history of Grenchen".

Werner Strub-Strasse in Grenchen is named after him.
