Werner Vogd

Werner Vogd (born December 22, 1963 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German sociologist , biologist and anthropologist . He has been Professor of Sociology at the University of Witten / Herdecke since 2008 .

Life

Vogd was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1963. After graduating from high school in 1983 at the Giersberg high school in Siegen , he studied biology at the University of Konstanz and the Free University of Berlin . He wrote his diploma thesis at the Institute for Biophysics there. In 1995 he was at the University of Ulm with the dissertation Radical Constructivism and Theravāda Buddhism. A systematic comparison in epistemology and ethics to the Dr. phil. ( summa cum laude ) doctorate.

He then worked as a research assistant at the anthropology department of the Medical Faculty of Ulm University and involved in studies at the Ulm Media Cooperative. From 1997 to 2001 he was a lecturer at the industrial design department of the Berlin University of the Arts and from 1999 to 2004 research assistant at the Institute for Medical Sociology in the Center for Human and Health Sciences of the Berlin University Medicine. In 2004 he completed his habilitation in sociology at the Free University of Berlin with the thesis Medical Decision-Making Processes of the Hospital in the Field of Tension between System and Purpose Rationality and received the venia legendi . In 2004/05 he was a research assistant in the DFG project “Doctors' Action and Decision-Making in Hospitals under Changed Organizational and Economic Conditions”. In 2007 he taught sociology of culture and knowledge as well as political sociology at the Institute for Sociology at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

In 2007/08 he was a deputy chair and since then has held the chair for sociology at the Faculty of Cultural Reflection at the University of Witten / Herdecke . He conducts research on organizations, the sociology of medicine, knowledge and religion, systems and design theory, implicit knowledge and empirical methods.
