Werner Volker Meyer

Werner Volker Meyer (* 1964 in Darmstadt ) is a German opera and concert singer ( baritone ).

Life

Training and Awards

Meyer received piano lessons at the age of six and from 1985 to 1990 studied singing with Martin Gründler at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts , where he received lied lessons from Charles Spencer and Rainer Hoffmann .

In 1986 he was a finalist in the VDMK young talent competition in Berlin , in 1988 he received the ensemble award for the performance of one of the three rascals in Carl Orff's Die Kluge as a co-winner of the Bad Hersfeld Opera Festival , and in 1989 he was the winner of the first international song competition “ Paula Salomon-Lindberg ”from the Berlin University of the Arts and finally in 1994 a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association .

Career as an opera singer

In the 1990/91 season Werner Volker Meyer made his debut at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg as Count Peter Homonay in Johann Strauss' operetta Der Zigeunerbaron , where he sang almost all the important roles in the lyric baritone and cavalier baritone over the next 10 years.

Since the 2001/2002 season he has been a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Darmstadt .

Career as a concert singer
