Wernher (priest)
Priest Wernher , a cleric presumably from Augsburg , was an early Middle High German poet . There is no definite knowledge about his living conditions, in any case he is not identical with Werner von Tegernsee . In 1172 he wrote the "Driu liet von der maget" ("Three poems of the Virgin"), which describes the life of Mary with recourse to apocryphal sources (Pseudo-Matthew, Liber de infantia sanctae Mariae et Christi Salvatoris ) . The work tells the story of the parents and the birth of Mary, their youth, marriage and conception and the childhood of Jesus until his return from Egypt.
