Werther Schanze

The Werther Schanze is a ground monument in the area of ​​the city of Halle (Westf.) In the district of Gütersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located directly on the municipal boundary to the eponymous town of Werther (Westphalia) at 287.1 m above sea level on the ridge of the Hengeberges in the Teutoburg Forest .

The Werther Schanze is a 14 × 15 m large, rectangular rampart. The earthwork was probably built around 1673, when troops of the Münster prince-bishop von Galen invaded the town of Werther.

The Werther Schanze can be reached via hiking trails; the Hermannsweg runs right through it.
