The Weser-Kolleg Minden is a college in the East Westphalian city of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The Weserkolleg is housed in the old Minden provision store .

The Weserkolleg sees its roots in the Jung-Stilling- Kolleg in Espelkamp , an (old-language) college for university entrance , sponsored by the Evangelical Church of Westphalia . In the 1970s the college had to close due to a lack of young people and was taken over by the city of Minden as the school authority. In 1973 it was re-established in Minden as a municipal institute for university entrance qualification , which began teaching on February 1, 1974. The founding director was the mayor of Minden and senior studies director Hans-Jürgen Rathert . On August 1, 1989, a new evening grammar school was established at the school, thus doubling it with a day and evening school for the second educational path in order to achieve university entrance qualification. This so-called bundle school was the first in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. On August 1, 2001, the evening secondary school was integrated into the school, which thus comprised three types of school. Since August 2013, the Weser-Kolleg has also been offering abitur-online.nrw for working people.

In this system, lessons are divided into ten to eleven hours of face-to-face teaching (usually two evenings) and a distance phase in which educational content is acquired through self-study with the help of the learning platform. Since February 2014, it has also been possible for working people to acquire a secondary school diploma online and, if successful, upgrade to a high school diploma or high school diploma. In addition, since February 2014 it has been possible to attend the “Abi-Kompakt”. The students are guaranteed lessons in the morning until they have completed their Abitur.

In the summer of 2011, the long-time manager Manfred Horter retired. From February 28, 2012 to January 31, 2019, Bernd Volz was the school principal. Since February 2019, the school has been headed temporarily by Mr. Uwe Lämmel, and from August 2020 also full-time.
