The Weserflug We 271 was the prototype of an amphibious aircraft from Weser-Flugzeugbau ( Weserflug for short ) that was developed and tested in the late 1930s / early 1940s.

history

The We 271 was the only in-house development of Weserflug in Einswarden (Nordenham). The twin-engine land / sea aircraft was largely designed by the technical director of the Adolf Rohrbach works . Characteristic features of the We 271 were the rectangular wing shape, the double tail and the teardrop-shaped lateral support floats . The first flight from land took place on June 26, 1939 by the Weserflug chief pilot Gerhard Hubrich in Lemwerder . Four more test flights were carried out on the same day. On June 28, 1939, the aircraft took off from the water for the first time on the Weser . Rohrbach, who died on July 6, 1939, was no longer able to take part in these first flight attempts.

With the beginning of the Second World War , planned record flight attempts had to be canceled, but the testing of the machine was continued. The bow shape of the flying boat was changed to better protect the propellers and the bow area against splash water and the tail unit also went through various changes. In 1940 the prototype was moved from Lemwerder to Einswarden, where it was nearly shot down by a British fighter during a test flight in 1941. After the wine-271 with the registration D-ORBE had graduated after more than 60 flights its pattern testing, took over on 1 May 1942, the test site Lake of the Luftwaffe in Travemünde the machine where the unique was later scrapped.

Projects

In 1941 the Weserflug P 2146 and Weserflug P 2147 projects were designed on the basis of the We 271.

The data of the project P 2146, further developed from the We 271: 2 As 410a engines, wingspan 14.6 m, wing area 32 m², all-up weight 3850 kg, top speed 325 km / h, cruising speed 295 km / h.

The data of the project P 2147 are similar to the We 271: 2 Hirth HM 508C motors , span 13.2 m, area 25.75 m², take off weight 2650 kg, top speed 275 km / h. Both projects were not implemented.
