Wesley Carr (born September 14, 1982 in Adelaide ) is an Australian pop singer. He won the Australian Idol casting show competition in 2008 .

biography

Carr grew up in Gawler in the north of the South Australian metropolis of Adelaide. When he was 15 he went to Bondi (Sydney) on the east coast with his father . There he performed in pubs at a young age. In addition to the guitar, he has also mastered the piano, harmonica and drums.

In the early 2000s, he met Ben Gillies, the drummer of the band Silverchair , and founded the band Tambalane with him in 2003 as a side project. Together with Greg Royal and Gerard Masters they recorded an album and went on tour, but when Gillies went back to Silverchair, Tambalane broke up after two years.

Carr then went solo again and was approached by producer and actor CJ Vanston and brought to Los Angeles. In the coming years, the Australian released two solo albums.

In 2008, Wes Carr applied for the sixth season of the Australian Idol casting show (the Australian version of Germany is looking for the superstar ). Due to his experience and his professional background, he quickly became the favorite of the season and was finally able to confidently win the title after twelve rounds at the end of November, which was associated with a recording contract and prize money of 200,000 Australian dollars. This was followed by his debut single You , with which he was the fifth of six idol winners to land a number 1 hit in Australia during Christmas week . The second single Feels Like Woah , however, lagged significantly behind. In return, his album The Way the World Looks reached number 2 in the Australian charts in April 2009.
