Agricultural environment of Wessenstedts

Wessenstedt , in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath , is a district of Natendorf with around 150 inhabitants, which in turn belongs to the joint municipality of Bevensen-Ebstorf in the Uelzen district , Lower Saxony .

Wessenstedt became famous for an urn cemetery that was discovered near the village . The vessels found on it were used by archaeologists to date one of the four stages of the Iron Age (non-Celtic, Lower Saxon Hallstatt period ) spatially in northern Hanover , the so-called "Stage of Wessenstedt" (800–600 BC).

The after-effects of the Bronze Age are also significant, shallow barrows with small stone boxes and vessels with the conical neck and belly of the same height.

The former vineyard of the Ebstorf monastery also belongs to Wessenstedt today . Centuries ago it turned out that wine-growing in the sandy soils of the heather was not crowned with success, but the name "Weinberghof" has been preserved to this day. In the middle of the 20th century, the area was turned into a holiday village with holiday homes of various sizes.

On July 1, 1972, Wessenstedt was incorporated into the community of Natendorf.
