Tim Holt (* 5. February 1919 in Beverly Hills , California ; † 15. February 1973 in Shawnee , Oklahoma , actually . Charles John Holt III ) was an American film actor , of his most famous role in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre afforded .

life and career

At the age of ten, Tim Holt, who came from an acting family, made his film debut in the western The Vanishing Pioneer (1928). In the 1940s, the youthful-looking actor was regularly featured as a supporting actor in westerns , for example alongside John Wayne in Ringo or alongside Ginger Rogers in 5th Avenue Girl . He had a significant role in Orson Welles ' film drama The Splendor of the House of Amberson in 1942 as the spoiled scion of an upper-class family. He had the most lasting success with the role of the youthful companion Humphrey Bogarts in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), in which his father Jack Holt (1888-1951), in the silent film era one of the highest paid western actors, a small but important supporting role played. Supposedly he was the actor with the best reflexes when drawing the revolver in that era . It is claimed that he managed this in five frames .

While Holt is mostly limited to supporting roles in higher-quality productions, he himself acted as the leading actor in numerous B-Westerns in the 1940s and 1950s. At the beginning of the 1950s, however, the genre of cheap western films dwindled, and western television series have now replaced them. In 1952, Holt largely turned his back on the film business and only returned to the camera for a few film and television appearances, including the horror film Alarm für Sperrzone 7 or the television series The People of Shiloh Ranch . Instead, Holt worked as the manager of a radio station in Oklahoma. His sister Elizabeth was also an actress and, after retiring from the film business, worked in various films as Jennifer Holt .

Shortly after his 55th birthday, he died of complications from cancer .
