West Budd Island is one of two large islands (the other is East Budd Island ) at the northern end of the Flat Islands in Holme Bay on the Mawson Coast of Mac Robertson Land, East Antarctica .
Norwegian cartographers mapped both islands using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . They named them as Flatøynålane (Norwegian for flat island needles ). In contrast, the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named both in 1960 after Grahame Murray Budd (* 1930), a doctor on Mawson's ward in 1959.
