The West Foreland ( Polish Zachodnie Przedpole ) is an ice-free headland in the west of King George Island , the largest of the South Shetland Islands . It is bounded in the east by the Bellingshausen Dome ( Collin Ice Cap ), which is bounded here by the Northern Collins moraine , as well as in the north by the Porębski Cove (glacier bay ) and in the south by the Gradziński Cove (probably identical with the Elephant Seal Bay ).
The almost one and a half kilometer wide promontory, which protrudes 500 to 700 meters into the sea ( Drakestrasse ), forms the northernmost area of the Fildes Peninsula . In the north and south a headland juts out into the open sea, and north of the southern headland are the Berlin islands . The Schrammenbach , the Geschiebebach and the Moränenbach flow over the West Foreland into the sea.
