description

West Quay is on the south bank of the Firth of Clyde and was once part of Port Glasgow's sprawling harbor . Today it is one of the few remaining fragments of this once important complex. With the storage buildings , the West Quay lighthouse and the Perch Light, three other listed buildings belong to the complex . The L-shaped quay dates from the early 19th, possibly even from the late 18th century. It describes a slight curve at the west end. The structure was built in layered masonry made of hewn and processed natural stone blocks. Once a rail-mounted crane ran along the quay, which was used to transport buoys to the warehouses. The tracks are still there today. Likewise the cast-iron bollards for mooring the ships.
