The West Reef ( English for Westriff is) a rocky reef in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is 3 miles northwest of Cape Lindsey off Elephant Island before the western entrance to Sealers Passage .
The reef got its descriptive name from seal hunters who operated in these waters and has been established since at least 1822.
