The West Skerry ( English for West Schäre [sic!]) Is a group of islands and small cliffs off the north coast of South Georgia . They are 3 km east of Barff Point and form the western part of the Skrap Skerries .
The name goes back to scientists from the British Discovery Investigations who mapped it between 1926 and 1930. The archipelago was February 7, 1934 the scene of a momentous shipwreck in which the existing twelve men crew of the whaler Shoma after a disaster had come on the ship for a collision in the storm killed.
