The West Africa craton is in Archean incurred, stable crustal block in West Africa. This craton is one of the three large blocks of stable, crystalline basement of very old rock that make up the African plate , along with the Congo craton and the Kalahari craton .

The West Africa craton occupies an area of ​​more than 4 million square kilometers between the Anti-Atlas in the north and the Gulf of Guinea in the south and is adjacent to the East Sahara craton .
