from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Westphalian Literature Office in Unna eV (WLB) is an institution for promoting literature and authors in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was founded in 1984 as the second of five literary offices in North Rhine-Westphalia and began its work in 1985.

activity

Information, advice and further training offers for authors, literature mediators, measures for further training as well as conceptual development and organizational implementation of literature projects are the main tasks of the nationwide working institution. Located in the middle of Westphalia, it is particularly effective for the regions of Hellweg, Sauerland, South Westphalia, the eastern Ruhr area and Münsterland.

The Westphalian Literature Office sees itself as a lobby institution for literature. It creates forums for dialogue, cultivates the exchange between authors and their readers in a variety of ways, promotes and initiates literary developments, expands literary horizons, helps talents and opens up perspectives for writers. It rediscovers forgotten authors, presents the diversity of contemporary literature and, as an infrastructure facility, supports cities, municipalities and regions in their literary work. It is not an institution comparable to a publishing house or an agency and does not award any financial grants.

Since 2001, the office has operated LITon.NRW, the largest database for literary work in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is continuously updated and received a visual and technical relaunch in 2019. It is also in charge of the literaturland westfalen network project, which it developed and whose model has become a model for networking in NRW and beyond in recent years. It has also received worldwide attention through Europe's largest international crime festival Mord am Hellweg , which the Westphalian Literature Office in Unna has organized as a biennale since 2002 together with the cultural institutions of the district town of Unna.

partner

The Westphalian Literature Office cooperates with cities and municipalities, private institutions and sponsors or with regional bodies such as the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe . It works with institutions such as libraries, adult education centers, cultural offices and publishers, but also with universities or broadcasters, associations or groups of authors.

Regular sponsors of the Westphalian Literature Office are the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , the Ruhr Regional Association and the district and town of Unna. In addition, individual projects of the office are supported by other sponsors.
