history

The Methodist Central Hall was built in 1912 as a memorial to mark the centenary of John Wesley's death on the grounds of the Royal Aquarium, Music Hall and Imperial Theater , an event complex that existed from 1876 to 1903.

About 1,025,000 donors contributed to the construction of the Central Hall, who contributed to the Wesleyan Methodist Twentieth Century Fund (also known as the Million Guinea Fund) between 1898 and 1908. The aim of this foundation was to collect one million guineas from one million Methodists .

The first meeting of the United Nations took place in the Central Hall in 1946.

From 1932 to 2000 the Methodist Central Hall Westminster served as the headquarters of the Methodist Church of Great Britain .
