Westonaria (Municipality)

Westonaria ( English Westonaria Local Municipality ) was a local municipality in the West Rand District , Gauteng Province in South Africa . In 2011 111,767 inhabitants lived there on a total area of ​​640 km². The seat of the municipal administration was in Westonaria .

The community name refers to the location in the west of the gold mining area on the Witwatersrand or means "western area".

The municipality was merged with the Randfontein Local Municipality to form Rand West City in 2016 .
