West Hungarian border messenger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The West Hungarian Grenzbote was a German-language daily newspaper that was published from 1872 to 1919 in Pressburg , today's Bratislava, in the Kingdom of Hungary .

The contents of the newspaper were news from Pressburg, mixed news, economic news and advertisements. The newspaper was of regional importance for western Hungary . However, up to the end of the 19th century, it did not represent a dedicated “national German standpoint”, but, like other German-language newspapers in the area, was considered rather pro-government. It was considered a liberal daily and was founded by Julius Földes, Iván von Simonyi , Eduard Horn and Mór Jókai . The West Hungarian border messenger initially had a print run of around 4,000 copies. Its main competitor was the conservative daily Pressburger Zeitung .

The first edition appeared on May 1, 1872 and the last on December 31, 1919.
