Wetjes-Hor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wetjes-Hor ( Throne of Horus ) is the ancient Egyptian name of the 2nd Upper Egyptian Gau in southern Egypt. The main place was Edfu , where Horus was also worshiped. The name of the district has been attested since the Old Kingdom. A few princes are known from the end of the Old Kingdom. The Greeks equate Horus with Apollon , which is why the district capital Edfu was referred to as Apollonospolis and the district as Apollonopolites .
