White River is a municipality in the province of Ontario , Canada .

The community was founded in 1885 as a workers' settlement on the Canadian Pacific Railway . Since 1961, White River has also been accessible via Highway 17, Trans-Canada Highway .

Until 2007, the local forest and paper industry ( Domtar ) was the largest employer.

climate

The community advertises itself as "the coldest place in Canada". However, this is not true, as significantly lower temperatures have already been measured on the Yukon.
