Whittlesea (formerly: Bulhoek or Bullhoek ) is a place in the South African province of Eastern Cape . He belongs to the Enoch Mgijima Ward in Chris Hani District . In 2011 it had 14,756 inhabitants. It lies at an altitude of 1,094 meters above sea level and is located around 30 kilometers south of Queenstown .
The place was the scene of the 1921 Bulhoek massacre with 169 dead, followers of the prophet Enoch Josiah Mgijima and his Israelite movement ( The Israelites ), which emerged from missionary Christianity .
