Wicked Weasel is an Australian company that specializes in the manufacture of slim-fitting swimwear (e.g. microkinis ) and lingerie for women.
The company was founded in 1994 by Peter Gifford, the former bass guitarist for Midnight Oil , and named after his girlfriend's nickname. Gifford opened its first store in Cairns in 1995 . In 1996 it moved to Byron Bay and has been the company's headquarters there ever since. Additional stores in Bondi and Melbourne were initially unsuccessful and were closed again in 1998.
On June 24, 1999, wickedweasel.com went live as the first online shop for Australian swimwear. In 2003 the company established itself as the largest Australian online clothing retailer. Due to the great success, a branch was opened in Sydney in December 2007 and later another branch in Melbourne. At the end of 2007 the website had over 100,000 visitors a day.
