Dedication (Strauss)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dedication is the title of a work by Johann Strauss Sohn (without opus number ) based on the song of the same name by Robert Schumann . It was first performed on November 22, 1862 in the Zum Sperl dance hall in Vienna.

Johann Strauss married Jetty Treffz in August 1862 and then went on their honeymoon in Venice . On the return journey they made a stopover in Trieste . This work was also created there. This is not actually a new composition. Strauss edited the song dedication by Robert Schumann (text by Friedrich Rückert ) and created an orchestral version from it. The work was a tribute to his wife. This is also clear when you read the lyrics of the song You my soul, you my heart . It is an example of many works that were created by the three Strauss brothers based on well-known works by other composers (songs, arias or other classical compositions). Most of them were lost, however, when Eduard Strauss had the music from the Strauss orchestra burned in 1907.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 1 second. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
