Life

Wieland Payer was born in Erfurt in 1981. After graduating from high school in 2000, he began studying architecture at the Technical University of Dresden in 2001 . In the same year he broke off his studies and worked in a chemical factory in Jena . From 2002 to 2008 he studied graphic design at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle with Thomas Rug, interrupted from 2006 to 2007 by a stay abroad at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma . After graduating with a diploma, he began further studies in London. In 2011 he completed his Master of Arts in printmaking at the Royal College of Art .

art

Wieland Payer uses graphic techniques, mainly pastel, to design landscapes. He finds his subjects on the go, while traveling and hiking. In his representation of nature, he orients himself, among others, to Carl Blechen and Caspar David Friedrich , artists of the German Romantic period. But Payer's works are also criss-crossed by geometric shapes, which on the one hand are reminiscent of the achievements of modern technology such as telephone lines, but which are also integrated into the composition as abstract surfaces.
