Wigod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wigod (also Wigot ) was the Anglo-Saxon Lord of Wallingford on the Thames , a relative of Edward the Confessor .

During the conquest of England and after the Battle of Hastings , William the Conqueror moved to London but was prevented from crossing the Thames. Wigod invited Wilhelm to Wallingford, where the Normans could then cross the river.

Wigod's daughter Ealdgyth married Robert D'Oyly , one of Wilhelm's barons. After Wigod's death, Robert became Lord of Wallingford, as Wigod's son Tokig (or Toking) had died in the fighting on William's side.
