Professor Wesselago

Viktor Georgijewitsch Wesselago , also known as Victor Veselago (born June 13, 1929 in Zaporizhia Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ; † September 15, 2018 ) was a Russian theoretical physicist .

Field of work

Wesselago predicted the existence of materials with negative indices of refraction in 1967 . With that he opened the completely new research field of metamaterials . Later, John Pendry from Imperial College London and David Smith from the University of California at San Diego succeeded in making such materials.
